Our team is continually looking for way to invent and simplify how to scale security response across AWS.
As a Security Engineer in the Research and Automation part of Amazon Security Operations, you drive security response operational excellence by creating automation to improve efficiency in day-to-day issue response activities. You work closely on supporting internal customers.
You empower incident response at scale within the security space, building new capabilities. You provide support for the Security Operations team via an on-call rotation, where supporting activities include assistance in security response, implementing rapid scripts, maintaining capability or adding improvements to a portfolio of security tools & processes.
You research how to enhance Amazon Security Posture and dive deep into improving efficiency or adding capabilities using metrics and data analysis.

Basic qualifications
- BS degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, (or) 5+ years’ equivalent technology experience
- 3 + years experience building scalable security utilities and tools
- 3 + years experience with web protocols and Linux/Unix tools and architecture
- 3+ years experience in host, network and application security
- 2+ years experience building automated tools, preferably in Python, JavaScript and/or Java
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
Preferred qualifications
- A MS degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or 8+ years’ equivalent technology experience.
- Previous experience on a Security Operations team, or experience coordinating responses to security incidents
- Extensive knowledge of internet security issues and threat landscape
- Experience with virtualization technologies, familiarity with AWS services is highly valued in particular
- Well-rounded background in OS, network and application security
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
About the team
Our team is located in several locations across the globe to support our customers across multiple timezones. As our main customer is the Amazon Security Operations (internal response) team, we place a very high focus on speed and deliver innovation and automation at scale . We are embedded in the Security Response team to stay deeply connected with our customer and their needs. We support workflow tools, enrichment tools, analysis and detection-mitigation tools, with a common goal of resolving security issues quickly and effectively. We are constantly seeking ways to increase efficiency and reduce the need for manual efforts, while increasing response capabilities .
